ZOMBIELAND is a hilarious thrill ride that is equally scary as it is funny, and although some don't consider it a horror, I personally think it is the best horror/comedy out there, and that it is why it is on my list.

The film centers around Columbus (Eisenberg), a young nerd who is trying to survive a mad cow disease ridden Zombieland. Along the way he picks up southern, twinkie-lover Tallahassee (Harrelson), who hates zombies almost as much as he loves those sweet cakey treats. This mismatched pair travel across America looking for safety when they come across two sisters, Wichita and Little Rock (Stone & Breslin). The two girls have heard rumours of a theme park that is zombie free, and are headed there. But they aren't as helpless as the seem, and they end up mugging the boys and stealing their ride.

After being robbed by the girls, Columbus and Tallahassee push onwards with their journey, only to be taken advantage of again by the girls, only this time the boys are prepared and fight back. They all agree to head on together to Pacific Playland resulting in humorous yet grizzly finale.

One of the funniest parts of the film is the cameo give by Bill Murray, who appears as himself. Basically, the four stars, find what they think to be an abandoned mansion, but they soon discover they are not alone, and it's not long before they are joined by Mr Murray. Unfortunately he doesn't stick around for long, because of a prank gone wrong, but the moments he has on screen are comic genius.

The writing is absolutely terrific, and the whole film is sharp, witty, scary and thoroughly enjoyable throughout. Fleischer does a brilliant job, especially for his first feature film, and the edginess and exciting direction he takes fits the film brilliantly. It feels modern, at the same time as feeling like an old cult classic, and I absolutely love that in a film. The cast are brilliant and each character is thought out so superbly and brought to life so well, that it really is fantastic to watch.

Zombieland is my number 5, but maybe you rate it higher, or maybe not at all. Maybe you have a different number 5, and I want to hear all about it in the comments below.
