Last Halloween I did a countdown of my top 5 horror films of all time; well this year I am going to do a countdown, but rather than my favourites of all time, I am going to look at my favourites of this Halloween season...first up, Cockneys Vs. Zombies.
Cockneys Vs. Zombies is a British movie about a group of inept criminals who decide to rob
a bank; their reasoning for this crime, to save their grandfather's retirement home from being
demolished by developers. Meanwhile on another building site, some
workers dig up an old graveyard and are attacked and bitten by a horde of the "undead"
which soon sets off a chain reaction. As this is all happening on the other side of town, the bank
robbers are cornered by the police while in the middle of the robbery;
but when they exit they find that the police are all dead as a result of the army of zombies. As they try to fight for survival themselves, the robbers must race across London to their grandfather's retirement home before the
zombies do.
Cockney's Vs. Zombies is the absolute perfect blend of stomach-turning gore, jump-out-of-your-seat scares, and rib-splitting comedy. There has not been a horror/comedy this good since Shaun of the Dead, and it is just a shame it hasn't received a cinematic release; because the writing, directing and acting is absolutely spot on, I'm talking near perfection.
