The first footage of NBC's Hairspray live has finally been unveiled.
Following the success of the mediocre The Sound of Music and Peter Pan, and the critically acclaimed The Wiz, NBC are bringing their latest live musical event to life, this time in the form of the John Waters' classic, Hairspray.
When Tracy Turnblad (Maddie Baillio) gets a spot on her favourite TV show, The Corny Collins Show, she decides to use her new celebrity to make a change in the world. She wants her home town of Baltimore and the entree world to become a place of acceptance; for different races, sizes and sexes. The only problem is, in 1960's Maryland, are they ready?
Joining newcomer Maddie Baillio are, Harvey Fierstein as Edna Turnblad, Kristin Chenoweth as Velma Von Tussle, Jennifer Hudson as Motormouth Maybelle, Ariana Grande as Penny Pingleton, Derek Hough as Corny Collins, Martin Short as Wilbur Turnblad, Dove Cameron as Amber Von Tussle, Ephraim Sykes as Seaweed J. Stubbs and Garrett Clayton as Link Larkin. That is quite a cast list.
The live event will also feature cameos fom Rosie O'Donnell, Sean Hayes and Billy Eichner, plus the original Broadway Tracy, Marissa Jaret Winokur and first ever Tracy, Ricki Lake.
Hairspray Live will air on NBC, December 7, with no UK date yet announced.
