It's January 15, 2009; a day that will go down i history as the day a brave pilot a made the decision that I imagine no pilot ever wants to make. Chesley Sullenberger made the brave choice to land his plane in the Hudson River just minutes after take off. With every passenger and crew member making it out alive, something that is rare to see in such a situation, Sullenberger (Sully) was deemed a hero and that event was known as the Miracle on the Hudson.

It is hard to believe that such a story is true, but it genuinely happened, and now 7 years later it has been transformed int a gripping and moving story about a man having to prove himself, carry on after risking so many lives and redeeming himself in the eyes of many of his peers.

Aaron Eckhart
The story focuses less on the actual event and the lives of the people on board, which it cold easily have done, but rather takes a look at the gruelling and questionable investigation that took place after the water landing. While to the public this seemed like a heroic and amazing thing to happen, but behind closed doors, Chesley (Hanks) and his co-pilot, Jeff Skiles (Eckhart), were scorned, made to feel guilty and judged harshly on their decisions. To the powers that be, the crash landing never needed to happen, because technology tells them it could have been avoided; but like the men try to explain, when you're in that situation...things aren't that simple.

The film stars a brilliant ensemble of truly gifted and talented actors including Laura Linney, Mike O'Malley and Max Adler. Each performance they bring adds an interesting and emotional dynamic to the story and the amazing journey that Sullenberger and Skiles are forced to go on. Aaron Eckhart as Skiles is heartwarming and strong in his delivery, and his support towards Hanks' Sullenberger and the friendship you see blossoming between them feels genuine and gives the two men extra depth and heart.

Tom Hanks
Of course though, this film has a star, and that comes in the form of Tom Hanks. Sully is potentially one of his greatest performances to date, filled with love, passion and subtlety; which are all traits that help to truly deliver the character of Sully (who is of course a real person), as well as push the story along on it's emotional path. Hanks  truly brings a tour de force of a portrayal to the big screen and it is his gentle approach to a big story that brings each moment to life with a real and genuine tone to it.

The film is directed by world famous movie star, Clint Eastwood, and it is clear that he knows exactly how to bring together a wonderful piece of cinema. With help from the terrific script by Todd Komarnicki, who keeps proceedings honest, heartfelt and raw; Sully is truly a triumph and an absolute corker to end help bring in the end of 2016. A story of bravery, hope and true human interest, this has everything any movie lover needs and so much more.
