An exciting new series that is extremely creepy, exciting and genuinely enjoyable. Not for the faint hearted...
Ben and Vivien (McDermott & Britton) are a young married couple who have suffered a few tragedies, so to escape it all they move to LA with their teenage daughter Violet (Farmiga). They find a luxurious mansion that has recently been restored, but with the house comes a whole host of terrifying history. Murders, suicides and psychopaths have all passed through the doors, and as strange things begin to happen they realise maybe the move wasn't such a great idea. The trio have excellent chemistry and they all give terrific performances throughout, which makes the coming season a whole lot more exciting.

Alongside these fairly normal character come a whole host of unhinged and slightly more sinister charcters. Firstly the new neighbours, Constance and Adelaide (Lange & Brewer) a slightly more dysunctional family. Constance is an old glamorous lady, but something about her just isn't right, I kind of get the impression she is dead. Her daughter has Down's Syndrome, and to say Constance isn't the nicest mother is an understatement, for instance she always refers to her as 'the little mongoloid'. Adelaide is also slightly odd, as she always breaks into Ben & Vivien's house and tells them they are going to die, they obviousl know more about the house then they are letting on and I really want to know what it ist they know. Lange is just amazing, I mean it's Jessica Lange for christ's sake, also Brewer is a very sweet actress who did a brilliant job with the creepier side to the character.
Tate (Peters) is one of Ben's clients (Ben's a psychiatrist), and he is a very unhinged teenage boy. He has dreams about killing people, and soon forms a friendship with Violet, when they compare their self-harming scars. He helps her get revenge on her bullies, resulting in a really creepy scene in the basement (crazy clown ghost). Peters is brilliant in the role and a plays an unhinged teenager very well. Larry (O'Hare), is one of the houses former occupiers, and he has a very dark story to tell. He tries to warn Ben of the dangers, but of course he doesn't listen, depsite Larry having some decent proof. O'Hare gives a very honest and emotional performance, and i'm interested on how he will be incorporated more in the coming season.

Finally the housemaid Moira (Conroy & Breckenridge), who again I think is dead, especially after what Constance says at the end. Now you may be wondering why there are two actresses, and it is because we have young and old. Now this isn't done in the usual way with flashbacks, but old Moira appears to women, and young to the men, adding some confusion and temptation for Ben. Conroy is really unnerving as old Moira, whereas Breckenridge is sexually fuelled as young Moira. They are both very convincing, and I am intrigued to find out more about both sides of the character.

All in all it is a complete triumph and Ryan Murphy (creator of Glee) has excelled himself again. The writing is sharp, but at the same time genuinly frightening, and the characters are well developed and interestng. The first episode is full of twists and scares and it really did leave me begging for more. The acting is terrific and aslong as it stays at this quality thoughout, I think Murphy has another hit on his hands. It airs here in the UK on FX, 7th November, and it really is terrific so check it out.
