A colourful, vibrant and exhilarating tale of two birds,  their love/hate, and one amazing city.

Blu (Eisenberg) is a rare blue macaw, in fact he is the only one left, and one day he is discovered by a ornithologist (Santoro) who has a brilliant idea. After a long decision his owner then decides it would be best for him to be taken away so he can mate with the only female left, Jewel (Hathaway).

So they set off to Rio De Jineiro, where Jewel awaits, and so does one big adventure. Along the way they meet Nico and Pedro (Foxx & Will.I.Am) two rapping, advice giving birds, Nico a canary and Pedro a Cardinal. Fernando and Nigel (Austin & Clement) a young boy and his psycho cockatoo, who work for the mob. It is these two that kidnap Blu and Jewel to get some money, and a feather-raising chase ensues.

Also in for the journey is Rafael and Luiz (Lopez and Morgan) a toucan and bull dog respectively. They help Jewel and Blu out along the way, and bring a lot of the comedy to the proceedings. My two favourite characters though, without a doubt, are Chloe and Alice (Sykes & Lynch). Maybe it is because I am in love with both of these women, I don't know, but together they are pure comic genius, and the film is worth it just for them.

The direction is good, the voice acting is superb, but the real winner is the beauty of it all. The colours, the scenery (I know it's a cartoon) and the whole atmosphere is magical, and they really do bring the carnival experience of Rio in to your living room. It is fantastic for kids, and although not as emotionally moving, or as good as a Pixar classic, it is still entertaining and will even keep the grown ups interested. It's out next week on DVD, and I definitely recommend this as your next purchase.
