Set in France, Belle (Emma Watson) is the quirky girl in the village who has never quite fit in. The daughter of an inventor, she fins herself saving her father from the clutches of a Beast (Dan Stevens), and stays with him to spare her father from being imprisoned. The Beast was once a handsome but arrogant prince, who had a curse put on him and his entire castle. Even the maids, butlers and staff of the castle get affected and changed into house hold objects. Only when the Beast is loved by someone despite his appearance, will he learn his lesson and the curse can be broken.
The last few weeks has seen new photos from the film and a new poster get unveiled by Disney, and one thing I have noticed is how uncharacteristically miserable Belle is in nearly every photo. Admittedly she isn't happy to begin with, but as her love blooms as does her smile, and it would have been nice to see some of that joy within the promo photos released.
The supporting cast includes Ian McKellen, Ewan McGregor, Audra McDonald, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Emma Thompson and Stanley Tucci as the castle staff, Luke Evans and Josh Gad as Gaston and Le Fou, and Kevin Kline as Belle's father, Maurice. The new adaptation is directed by Bill Condon.
Beauty and Beast is set for release on 17 March, 2017.
